When Mr. Bartz, the question of who was the first to put a question to Ulla Schmidt, there is initially bedrücktes silence. Students slip nervously, press deeper into the chairs and look away. But that should change.
We are located in room D403, it's Monday the 3rd / 4th Hour and 20 students from grades 9 to 11 sit together in a circle of chairs. In addition to Mr. Bartz are still Ulla Schmidt, the former health minister, and her staff Boris Linden present. As part of Europe Day Ulla Schmidt came to our school to talk in small groups with students about us and Europe to discuss. tommy knocker
After initial hesitation on the part of the student's conversation over time grew in intensity. In particular, the question of "Europe: Borders connect, disconnect limits?" Was discussed in detail. First, the students could even express their opinions: some were of the view that the borders are still keenly felt, as it were drawbacks to pass requests and other formalities for example, German citizen who lived in the Netherlands or Belgium. For a pass they would, for example, pay more than people who lived in Germany. Others were of the opinion that boundaries were barely visible, eventually one would ever cross borders without even realizing it. Ulla Schmidt also supported the statement, you could always visit now friends abroad without being stopped at the borders. 50 years ago, in her youth, which was not so easily possible.
Also, the question arose as to why nowadays many EU citizens hardly participate in the election. Many students felt that we noticed very little of the events of the EU, and that it is not treated well in school in enough detail. The question arose as to whether it is possible to transform the Couven-Gymnasium in Europe school by participating increasingly in European events. Or by organizing a trip to Brussels or Strasbourg. This would allow the issue of Europe more attractive for us and the interest would rise, and the cohesion of Europe would be strengthened.
Overall it was a very insightful discussion that encouraged to intensify to deal with the issue of European policy. We are convinced that all learning aspect could take for the way forward. We thank Ulla Schmidt that it has taken time for the interview and hope soon to feel a bit more of Europe at our school.
